Moberly is 1-9 against the Bulldogs since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Moberly Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mexico Bulldogs at 7:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Moberly has not done well against the Pirates recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Moberly strolled past the Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 59-41.
Moberly's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Bivins, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Ty Rucker, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mexico came tearing into last Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 67-62 win over Warrenton. Given Mexico's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Warriors are ranked 188th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Moberly's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Mexico, their win bumped their record up to 16-2.
Things could have been worse for Moberly, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 74-59 loss to the Bulldogs in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Moberly, Jordan Shelton (who scored 23 points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
