The Wayne County Wildcats are on the road again on Friday and play against the Richland Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Wayne County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Wayne County came up short against East Hickman County and fell 49-40.
Despite the defeat, Wayne County saw an underclassman step up: Cayman Camfield scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Sayler Skelton, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wayne County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Richland had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They strolled past Zion Christian Academy with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. Given Richland's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Zion Christian Academy is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wayne County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Richland, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Wayne County skirted past Richland 61-58 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wayne County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
