Even though the Oakman Wildcats have not done well against the Cordova Blue Devils recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Oakman enjoyed a cozy 56-40 victory over Cordova. Given Oakman's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Cordova is ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Rick Johnson, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds. Bridger Upton was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Oakman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Cordova, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-14.
Oakman will head out on the road to square off against Fayette County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Fayette County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Cordova, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Sumiton Christian at 7:00 p.m.
