The Pollok Central Bulldogs waltzed into their match Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They strolled past Diboll with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. Given Pollok Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while Diboll is ranked 844th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Pollok Central to victory were Wyatt Graham and Jake Matthews. Graham scored 16 points, while Matthews dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrius Sherman, who scored eight points.
Diboll's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyrece McMillan, who scored 11 points. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Latavian Forney, who scored eight points.
Diboll struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pollok Central racked up 17 assists.
Pollok Central has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Diboll, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-3.
Pollok Central will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Marshall at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th. Diboll and Centerville will round out the year against one another at 9:03 a.m. on December 28th at.
