The Athens Wildcats were the 57-52 winner over the Troy Trojans when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The New Year welcomed Athens with a 72-45 whooping from Troy on Friday. While losing is never fun, Athens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while Troy is ranked 41st).
Despite the defeat, Athens saw an underclassman step up: Nick Robbins scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Jase Babcock, who scored five points.
This is the second loss in a row for Athens and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Troy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Athens will head out on the road to face off against Towanda at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Troy, they will be playing at home against Wellsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
