The Northwestern Trojans entered their tilt with the Laurens Raiders with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. Northwestern breezed by Laurens at home to the tune of 57-0. Considering Northwestern has won ten contests by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Northwestern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zilon Arnold led the charge by rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Finley Polk was another key contributor, throwing for 124 yards and four touchdowns while completing 91.7% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Northwestern's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Laurens' QB won't forget Jayce Joseph anytime soon given Joseph sacked him five times.
Northwestern's victory was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Laurens, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.
Northwestern will square off against Greenwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Northwestern is ranked first). Laurens does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
