McKinney hasn't had much luck against Prosper recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions are taking a road trip to take on the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. McKinney has given up an average of 13.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Plano West hit McKinney with a 15-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lions lost 19-2 to the Wolves.
McKinney saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leyla Molina, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Prosper entered their tilt with Plano on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Wildcats 15-5. Considering the Eagles have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Peyton Moya made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Prosper let Bella Lopez and Reese Bruno run wild. Lopez went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Bruno went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Lopez a new career-high. Kenzie Orgeron was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Prosper hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Plano struck out seven times.
Prosper's record now sits at 13-10. As for McKinney, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-21.
McKinney might still be hurting after the 15-3 loss they got from Prosper when the teams last played back in March. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
