After a string of nine wins, Galena's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 2-0 to the Scales Mound Hornets. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Galena was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-15.

Macie Weber paced Galena's offense, picking up nine kills. Weber got some help from Emma Ehrler and her 16 assists.

Galena's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 24-3. As for Scales Mound, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Galena is set to face off against their familiar foe River Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Scales Mound will challenge rival West Carroll at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
