Apex is 8-2 against Cary since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Apex Cougars will be playing at home against the Cary Imps at 6:00 p.m. Apex is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
On Friday, Apex was able to grind out a solid win over Green Level, taking the game 5-2.
Apex got a great performance from DANE PURDY as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on KYLE HULSE, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. ADRIAN GONZALEZ also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Apex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Cary owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They put the hurt on Panther Creek with a sharp 7-0 victory. The Imps not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.
Will Vetter was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other pitching news, Logan Joyce looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, James Oates was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Andrew Mohler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Cary now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Apex, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Apex has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cary struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Apex beat Cary 9-4 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Does Apex have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cary turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
