GV Christian hasn't had much luck against White Pine recently, but that could start to change on Friday. GV Christian will head out on the road to take on White Pine at 1:00 p.m. GV Christian has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
GV Christian is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Tuesday. They lost 17-2 to Pahranagat Valley. That's two games in a row now that the Guardians have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Wake Rowling made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
White Pine never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wells last Saturday. They came out on top against the Leopards by a score of 10-6.
Dylan Cessford made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. White Pine is 4-1 when Cessford posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Hall, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of White Pine's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jackson Armstrong, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
White Pine now has a winning record of 6-5. As for GV Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. GV Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like White Pine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
GV Christian suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to White Pine when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can GV Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
