The Elgin Wildcats had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 48-36 victory over Pflugerville Connally on Friday. This was payback for Elgin, who suffered a 28-27 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Elgin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. Jaylan Roberson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Pflugerville Connally saw an underclassman step up: Ryland Reeves scored 25 points. That was a full 69.4% of Pflugerville Connally's points, marking the 29th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Karis Jones, who scored six points.
Elgin's win bumped their record up to 10-20. As for Pflugerville Connally, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-14 record this season.
Elgin will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Georgetown knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge. As for Pflugerville Connally, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Creek is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
