Football Recap: Southside Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Southside had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They claimed a resounding 35-8 victory over the Forrest City Mustangs. The win continues a trend for the Southerners in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Owen McLaughlin had a dynamite game, rushing for 200 yards and four touchdowns. Aiden Rodriguez also helped out as he racked up 114 rushing yards.

Southside didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Devan Hightower, Karson McSpadden, and Brayden York picked up one apiece. Gentry Shirley-Hoskinds was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 23 total tackles.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southside will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Harrisburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Forrest City, they will host Wynne at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
