Wheeler and Pine Grove are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2017, but likely not for long. The Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Wheeler's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Biggersville. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
The result came thanks to Marli Kate Shockley's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Kate Beckham, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Karsyn Kesler also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Wheeler was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Pine Grove made sure to put some runs up on the board against Falkner on Tuesday. The Panthers blew past the Eagles 15-0. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Preslie Hopper looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Kaylee Crawley was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anaston Christian, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.
Pine Grove has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Wheeler, their record now sits at 4-5.
Wheeler was able to grind out a solid victory over Pine Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 8-4. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
