II Section VI recap October 22, 2013
Campo Verde was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Coconino. The Coyotes came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Mesquite added to the longest winning streak in II Section VI this week by beating Poston Butte, 35-12. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Wildcats.
Isaiah Juarez made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Broncos fell to Mesquite. The 5-foot-10 senior forced 1 fumble.
Luke Pineda put up the best numbers in passing as Campo Verde topped the Panthers. He finished with a total of 14 completions for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pineda's favorite target this week was Alex Madrid, who caught 4 passes for 78 yards.
Marcos de Niza's Joshua Eckley and N'Keal Harry have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Eckley has thrown for 1,484 yards this season, while Harry has 17 catches for 424 yards. Poston Butte's Brandon Hatfield leads the league in rushing yards with 1,041.
The most important game in the league this week will be the match up between the Padres and Jim Jones' team. Marcos de Niza comes into the matchup ranked 14th in the state, while the Wildcats ranks 21st.
Max Ragsdale's team took down Coconino 48-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Pineda ran for 49 yards during the win.
