New Kent is 9-1 against Smithfield since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Trojans will square off against the Packers at 4:30 p.m. New Kent's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Smithfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
New Kent's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Tabb. Considering the Trojans have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
New Kent got a massive performance out of Kendall White, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that White has snagged this season. Rayne Otey was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Smithfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Lions.
Kayla Young made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Young was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Cheyenne Debusk was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Paightyn McCoole, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
New Kent's record now sits at 12-3. As for Smithfield, their record is now 9-5.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Kent has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Smithfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went New Kent's way against Smithfield when the teams last played back in March, as New Kent made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
