Tucson High Magnet School has gone a perfect 10-0 against Rincon/University recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Badgers will square off against the Rangers at 3:45 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Tucson High Magnet School and seven for Rincon/University.
On Tuesday, Tucson High Magnet School came up short against Sunnyside and fell 10-6.
Tucson High Magnet School got a good showing from Luis Rodriquez, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. Rodriquez has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabriel Morales and Gennaro Brito did some serious damage despite the final result: Morales scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Brito scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Uziel Castillo, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Rincon/University also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Marana by a score of 5-1.
Rincon/University saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jarod Villareal, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Tucson High Magnet School now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Rincon/University, their record now sits at 4-14.
Rincon/University's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Tucson High Magnet School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Rincon/University, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Tucson High Magnet School keep running through batters, or will the Rangers buck the trend?
