The Jersey Panthers lost against the Highland Bulldogs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Jersey took a 67-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, Jersey can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 120th).
When it comes to explaining why Jersey lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaxon Brunaugh. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Brunaugh is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. Aiden Taylor was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Jersey has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Highland, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jersey's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Saukees at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Pittsfield will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Breese Central will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
