Basketball Recap: Lutheran South Academy Takes a Loss

Lutheran South Academy lost against Second Baptist on January 10th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Lutheran South Academy Pioneers took a blow against the Second Baptist Eagles, falling 80-53. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 992nd, while the Eagles are ranked 42nd).

Second Baptist found their leader in sophomore Reese Alston, who went 10 for 17 on his way to 30 points in addition to six boards and six steals. Alston's evening made it 20 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Shia Francis, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Lutheran South Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Second Baptist, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-2.

Lutheran South Academy has already played their next match (against Logos Prep Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Second Baptist will take on Emery/Weiner at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Second Baptist knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Emery/Weiner likes a good challenge.
