Tuesday just wasn't the day for St. David's offense. They came up short against Wake Christian Academy on Tuesday, falling 14-0. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
For Wake Christian Academy's part, Brody Morris was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Morris has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other pitching news, Nathan Winstead looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Trace Turner was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Will Curry, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Wake Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. David's only managed one hit.
Wake Christian Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for St. David's, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. David's has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wake Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts.
