The Charlotte Latin Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. Charlotte Latin will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Charlotte Latin will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Providence Day, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hawks never let the Chargers get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.
Not much got past Sydney Thune, who gave up just three hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Providence Day off the board. Thune has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Irie King was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Talia Hawa, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Wesleyan Christian Academy won against Forsyth Home Educators on Thursday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Trojans put the hurt on Ravenscroft with a sharp 13-1 win. Considering the Trojans have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Alexis Emery, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Juliana Abantohollans was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Wesleyan Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Charlotte Latin's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Wesleyan Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season.
Wesleyan Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Charlotte Latin has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Wesleyan Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Charlotte Latin's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Charlotte Latin took their victory against Wesleyan Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
