Lafayette Central Catholic extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 1-12. They came up short against the Benton Central Bison, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bison this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-6 on Thursday.
Lafayette Central Catholic saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaliyah Cordell, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Cordell's first of the season.
As for Benton Central, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
On Benton Central's side, Harper Butler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Butler a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julianna Sibray, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Minniear, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Lafayette Central Catholic didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-6 defeat against Twin Lakes on the 6th. As for Benton Central, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-2 win against Lafayette Jefferson on the 7th.
