The North Hagerstown Hubs were the 71-67 winner over the Williamsport Wildcats when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. North Hagerstown took a 82-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Williamsport on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (69), North Hagerstown still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why North Hagerstown lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brady Walters. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Walters hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Somerville, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, North Hagerstown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Williamsport only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Williamsport was led to victory by Corry Nelson Jr and Ceonta Wilmore. Nelson Jr scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Wilmore scored 24 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Nelson Jr pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cole Kriner, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
North Hagerstown's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Williamsport, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
North Hagerstown will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Clear Spring at 6:30 p.m. Clear Spring is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Williamsport, they will head out on the road to challenge South Hagerstown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (South Hagerstown is ranked 146th, while Williamsport is ranked 156th).
