Windermere Prep is 7-0 against Foundation Academy since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Windermere Prep Lakers will take on the Foundation Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Windermere Prep walked away with it. They walked away with a 62-51 win over the Royals on Saturday. Given Windermere Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while The First Academy is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Windermere Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuel Shoptaw, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Sinan Huan was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Foundation Academy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 78-63 loss to The First Academy on Thursday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cameron Basden, who scored 14 points along with six assists and four steals. Another player making a difference was Jacob Osborne, who scored 20 points along with five assists and two steals.
Foundation Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Windermere Prep pushed their record up to 20-7 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Foundation Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Windermere Prep have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 47.6% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Foundation Academy struggles in that department as they've made 41.3% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Windermere Prep's way against Foundation Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as Windermere Prep made off with a 64-43 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Foundation Academy's Braden Holcomb, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Windermere Prep to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
