The Evergreen Cougars managed to keep up with the Wheat Ridge Farmers until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Evergreen suffered a tough 35-14 defeat at the hands of Wheat Ridge. Evergreen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Wheat Ridge apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Evergreen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Josh Bittner, who rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns, and Jace Jodie who rushed for 100 yards.
Even if they lost, Evergreen's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Wheat Ridge's QB won't forget Jackson Post anytime soon given Post sacked him six times.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheat Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bennett Wilkes, who picked up 96 receiving yards, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Angel Bueno was another key contributor, rushing for 35 yards and two touchdowns.
Evergreen's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Wheat Ridge, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6.
Evergreen will take on Conifer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wheat Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Littleton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Littleton is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
