The Cascade Christian Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They breezed by Vashon Island at home to the tune of 62-0. The result was nothing new for Cascade Christian, who have now won six matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Jackson Almond got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 287 yards and four touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Almond's longest rush was for an incredible 77 yards. Byson Vasquez was another key contributor, picking up 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cascade Christian's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Brian Rivera and his three sacks.
Cascade Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-7 East Jefferson [Port Townsend/Chimacum] and 0-7 Life Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 19.7% over those games). As for Vashon Island, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.
Cascade Christian will head out on the road to face off against Omak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vashon Island, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Life Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
