Baseball Recap: Clayton Wins Going Away Against Penasco

Clayton won the last time they faced Penasco and things went their way on Friday too. Clayton put the hurt on Penasco with a sharp 22-1 win. That 21 run margin sets a new team best for the Yellowjackets this season.

Daniel Manquero and Corvin Scott made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Manquero tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Scott tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Manquero gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Manquero scored four runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3, while Scott went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Manquero is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Max Leal was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Oulette, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4.

Clayton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Clayton now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Penasco, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Clayton will challenge Questa at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clayton is facing Questa at the right time seeing as Questa is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Penasco, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Cimarron at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
