After flying high against the Canadian Cougars last Thursday, The Haskell Haymakers came back down to earth. Haskell had to suffer through a rough 60-16 loss at the hands of Pocola. Haskell was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-8.
Despite the loss, Haskell had strong showings from Dylan Ozinga, who rushed for 102 yards on only 13 carries, and Lucas King, who picked up 95 receiving yards.
Aj Lyons-Jerrell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pocola, rushing for 117 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also picking up 57 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Austin Hardwick, who threw for 329 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Haskell's defeat was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.0 points per game. As for Pocola, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-3.
Haskell will challenge Gore at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pocola, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Porter at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Porter is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
