The Stanton Mustangs struggled with assists on Monday (the Pender Pendragons had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Stanton was beaten by the Pendragons 59-21. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Stanton has scored all season.
Stanton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Skyler Siebrandt, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Siebrandt is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last eight games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Stanton struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Pender found their leader in underclassman Hadley Walsh, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walsh has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Wegner, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Stanton has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Pender, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 18-0.
Stanton will face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Howells-Dodge is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road. As for Pender, they will square off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Bend Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Pendragons are ranked 14th).
