After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Boyd County, Lakota East was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Lakota West Firebirds. The win was some much needed relief for the Thunderhawks as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.
Kaleigh Crawford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Crawford wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Karli Damen, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Lakota East's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Lakota West, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
