Mount Horeb is a perfect 4-0 against Stoughton since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Mount Horeb will host Stoughton at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Mount Horeb's favor as the squad sits on 12 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Stoughton has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Mount Horeb will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Reedsburg on Tuesday. The Vikings walked away with a 12-7 win over the Beavers. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Beavers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Jozie Clifton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Clifton was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ruby Dahlk was a standout: she scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Lauren Mester, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Mount Horeb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reedsburg only posted an OBP of .355.
Meanwhile, Stoughton had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Baraboo a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday.
Like Mount Horeb, Stoughton also got a great game from a two-way player: Madelyn Barsness. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Barsness has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Stoughton got a big performance out of Chloe Buell, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Emily Matheny was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Stoughton's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-8. As for Mount Horeb, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Mount Horeb skirted past Stoughton 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will Mount Horeb repeat their success, or does Stoughton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
