Ruby Kalkbrenner made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Bertram, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, four runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Daphne Hall was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Broughton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cary only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Rolesville fell victim to Southern Nash and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 6-0 to the Firebirds. The game marked the first time this season in which the Rams were not able to get on the board.
Broughton's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Rolesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Rolesville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Broughton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Rolesville, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Broughton's hitters?
Broughton beat Rolesville 3-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Does Broughton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rolesville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
