Basketball Recap: Kathleen Drops Highest Score of Season Against Vanguard

Kathleen scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They lost to the Vanguard Panthers at home by a 77-61 margin. The Red Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.

Despite the loss, Kathleen saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rashard Kelly posted 25 points. With that strong performance, Kelly is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who earned 13 points and five rebounds.

Vanguard got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Dashawn Lightborne out in front who put up 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lightborne is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Jaelen Randall was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six boards and four steals.

Kathleen dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Vanguard, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.

Kathleen will welcome George Jenkins at 7:30 p.m. on December 16th. As for Vanguard, they will venture away from home to square off against Haines City at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Vanguard is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.9 points per game this season.
