The Morgan Township Cherokees came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Whiting with points to spare, taking the game 74-58. Given Morgan Township's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Whiting is ranked 449th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Morgan Township was led to victory by Jett Gheaja and Keagen Holder. Gheaja scored 16 points along with seven rebounds, while Holder scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Holder has scored at least 25% of Morgan Township's points. Jack Wheeler was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Whiting's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Shawn Donaldson, who scored 33 points along with five assists, and Nick Davenport who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The game was Donaldson's fifth in a row with at least ten points.
Even though they lost, Whiting were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Morgan Township's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Whiting, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
