The Mishawaka Marian Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hamilton Southeastern. While losing is never fun, Mishawaka Marian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Hamilton Southeastern is ranked 25th).
Mishawaka Marian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being William Owens, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Owens scored a full 27.8% of Mishawaka Marian's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zion Rhoades, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Hamilton Southeastern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Griffith, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Nate Orr was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Mishawaka Marian's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for Hamilton Southeastern, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Mishawaka Marian will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Homestead at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hamilton Southeastern and Valparaiso will round out the year against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. Valparaiso knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Hamilton Southeastern likes a good challenge.
