The Cheylin Cougars were the 52-44 winner over the Wichita County Indians when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Cheylin fell 58-50 to Wichita County on Monday. It was the first time this season that Cheylin let down their fans at home.
Loss or not, Cheylin got some senior leadership from Pablo Bermudez and Logan McCarty. Bermudez scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while McCarty. dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 44% of Cheylin's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Cheylin's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Wichita County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheylin won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Western Plains at 6:35 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Wichita County, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lakin at 7:00 p.m. Lakin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wichita County in Kansas (Lakin is ranked 29th, while Wichita County is ranked 209th).
