Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Velma Jackson Falcons walked away with it. They blew past the Tartars 44-22. Velma Jackson's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Velma Jackson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Griffin led the charge by rushing for 191 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Griffin is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Tyshun Willis was another key contributor, picking up 142 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Velma Jackson's defense and their four sacks. In that department, Chris Rougely was the leader with two sacks.
Despite the loss, Taylorsville saw an underclassman step up: Trey Barnes rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Velma Jackson's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Taylorsville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Velma Jackson is on the road again on Friday and play against Biggersville at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Biggersville is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Taylorsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
