The Manchester Squires will head out to take on the Caston Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manchester's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three games, but Tuesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
Manchester came up short against Peru on Monday, falling 8-1.
Manchester saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audra Tobias, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Caston got the win against LaVille on Friday by a conclusive 14-3. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Hadlie Coffing was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Coffing was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Kylee Logan and Myli Rude did most of the damage at the plate: Logan got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rude got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Abigail Apperson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Caston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .828. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as LaVille only posted an OBP of .391.
Manchester's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Caston, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Manchester has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Caston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Manchester might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Caston when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Squires avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
