Minnechaug Regional is 7-1 against Holyoke since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Minnechaug Regional Falcons will be playing at home against the Holyoke Purple Knights at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Minnechaug Regional is not getting complacent, as they come into the match much higher ranked than Holyoke in Massachusetts (Minnechaug Regional is ranked 54th, while Holyoke is ranked 248th).
Two Fridays ago, Minnechaug Regional was beaten by Central 38-10. That means Minnechaug Regional has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Meanwhile, Holyoke's five-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They managed a 18-13 victory over Chicopee Comp. The victory was just what Holyoke needed coming off of a 38-12 loss in their prior match.
Holyoke can attribute much of their success to Marty Phillips, who threw for 197 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.9% of his passes.
Minnechaug Regional's defeat was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-2. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-0 Westfield and 11-1 Milton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.3% over those games). Finally capturing their first win of the season, Holyoke advanced to 1-4.
Minnechaug Regional skirted past Holyoke 11-8 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Does Minnechaug Regional have another victory up their sleeve, or will Holyoke turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
