Basketball Game Preview: Gibsonburg Golden Bears vs. Woodmore Wildcats

Gibsonburg and Woodmore are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Gibsonburg Golden Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Woodmore Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Gibsonburg is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing St. Mary Central Catholic: they outscored them in every quarter. Gibsonburg was the clear victor by a 61-36 margin over St. Mary Central Catholic on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Bears.

Gibsonburg relied on the efforts of Camden Mooney, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 18 points, and Reece Walby, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. That's the most points Mooney has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Wasserman, who posted six points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Gibsonburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodmore). They breezed by Danbury to the tune of 80-32 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Gibsonburg's record now sits at 7-4. As for Woodmore, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-6.

Gibsonburg took their victory against Woodmore in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 71-50. Does Gibsonburg have another victory up their sleeve, or will Woodmore turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
