After flying high against the Hollins Royals on Wednesday, the Dunedin Falcons came back down to earth. Dunedin was dealt a 75-29 defeat at the hands of Countryside on Thursday. Dunedin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-18.
Haylee Dones and Trinity Clincy certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Dones scored 16 points, while Clincy scored four points along with seven assists and five steals. Clincy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Marchido, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Countryside found their leader in underclassman Ally Wright, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wright has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Brooks, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds.
Dunedin's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.5 points per game. As for Countryside, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunedin will challenge Gulf at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gulf has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Countryside, Countryside and North Tampa Christian Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 13th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. North Tampa Christian Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
