It was a good run, but Elmwood-Murdock unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-match winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Wynot Blue Devils by a score of 2-1. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Elmwood-Murdock sadly wound up on the wrong side. The final score came out to 25-23, 19-25, 25-18.
Annie Backemeyer paced Elmwood-Murdock's offense, picking up 16 kills. Backemeyer got some help from Lucy Backemeyer and her 29 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wynot to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenna Oligmueller, who had 17 digs and 12 kills. Oligmueller is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 25 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Geisen, who had 25 digs and three assists.
Elmwood-Murdock's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Wynot, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elmwood-Murdock will welcome Lincoln Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wynot, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ponca on Thursday.
