The Gillespie Miners's nine-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 69-34 victory over Mt. Olive on the road. The win was just what Gillespie needed coming off of a 77-49 loss in their prior game.
Despite the loss, Mt. Olive saw an underclassman step up: Matthew Bywater scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Bywater is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played.
Gillespie's win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. As for Mt. Olive, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gillespie will take on Hillsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mt. Olive, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
