The Navajo Prep Eagles will head out to challenge the Hozho Academy Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Navajo Prep put up the most points they have all season on Saturday. They blew past Pecos 18-6. The Eagles not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 23, 2024.
Navajo Prep got a massive performance out of Nehemiah Simpson, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Simpson posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Koltyn Holyan, who scored two runs and stole six bases while going 1-for-3.
Navajo Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .742. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hozho Academy got the win against Shiprock on Monday by a conclusive 18-9.
Brody Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off four hits. Brown was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-6.
In other batting news, Keihin Kirk was a standout: he got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those triples marked the first that he hit this season. Elias Longhat was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-6.
Hozho Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Navajo Prep, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Navajo Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .533. However, it's not like Hozho Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .541. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
