Even though the Boca Ciega Pirates have not done well against the St. Petersburg Green Devils recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Boca Ciega walked away with a 73-66 victory over St. Petersburg. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Boca Ciega to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaleb Oriol, who scored 24 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Oriol has scored at least 25% of Boca Ciega's points. Jordan Naylor was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Boca Ciega is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for St. Petersburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Boca Ciega will head out on the road to face off against Calvary Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Calvary Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while Boca Ciega is ranked 77th). As for St. Petersburg, they will be playing at home against Lakewood at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lakewood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Wednesday.
