The Albuquerque Academy Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Manzano Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Manzano took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Albuquerque Academy, who comes in off a win.
Albuquerque Academy will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Hope Christian on Tuesday. The Chargers were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Huskies. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Chargers as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Lilly La Fata spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Albuquerque Academy let Brooklyn Dominguez and Addie Spratley run wild. Dominguez went 5-for-6 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Spratley went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Dominguez has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Sydney Koranyi, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Albuquerque Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.
Meanwhile, Manzano was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 16-1 to Santa Fe.
Manzano saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Rios, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Albuquerque Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-20. As for Manzano, their loss dropped their record down to 3-19.
Albuquerque Academy got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Manzano by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
