Basketball Recap: North Clayton Comes Up Short

North Clayton lost against Cedar Grove last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The North Clayton Eagles had to suffer through a 83-51 loss at the hands of the Cedar Grove Saints. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while the Saints are ranked 16th).

North Clayton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaquavius Cox, who went 5 for 10 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds, and Unique Davis, who posted six points and three steals. What's more, Davis also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dallas Fisher, who earned nine points in addition to six assists and five boards.

Cedar Grove's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emanuel Green, who put up 30 points. The matchup was Green's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keith Gillespie, who scored 22 points.

North Clayton now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Cedar Grove, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-3.

North Clayton will square off against Mt. Zion at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Clayton is facing Mt. Zion at the right time seeing as Mt. Zion is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Cedar Grove, they will take on Douglass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cedar Grove's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
