The Alta Hawks will be home for the holidays to greet the Kearns Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Alta unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 57-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pleasant Grove. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Alta has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Fuifuilupe Niumeitolu, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. She scored a full 28.8% of Alta's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Aolele Liavaa was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 67-28, which was the final score in Kearns' tilt against American Fork on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Kearns in their matchups with American Fork: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mina Kinikini, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Kearns struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Alta's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Alta have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Kearns struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34.6 rebounds per game. Given Alta's sizeable advantage in that area, Kearns will need to find a way to close that gap.
