It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Villa Park Spartans ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 34-33 photo finish over Yorba Linda. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Nate Lewis was the offensive standout of the game as he threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt.
When it comes to explaining why Yorba Linda lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chase Jones. Despite the final result, he rushed for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards.
Villa Park's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Yorba Linda, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Villa Park will challenge Brea Olinda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brea Olinda is on a four-game streak of home wins, Villa Park a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. As for Yorba Linda, they will head out on the road to face off against Foothill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
