Johnston and Toll Gate are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Panthers will host the Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Johnston is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Portsmouth, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Johnston was ranked 18th). The Panthers never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Haley Boudreau's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kalyn Foster, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Toll Gate, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over North Providence on Monday. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Liv Cota was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Emma Harold was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Toll Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Providence only posted an OBP of .059.
Toll Gate's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Johnston, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Johnston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Toll Gate struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Johnston came out on top in a nail-biter against Toll Gate when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
