Green Mountain has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Evergreen Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Green Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 contests -- so hopefully the Cougars like a good challenge.
Green Mountain pushed their score all the way to 64 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vista PEAK Prep. While losing is never fun, Green Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Bison are ranked 18th).
Green Mountain might have lost, but man, Blake Weslin was a machine: he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Simon Lunsford, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Evergreen had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They strolled past Wheat Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 58-44.
Green Mountain's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Evergreen, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-11 record this season.
Green Mountain skirted past the Cougars 49-47 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Green Mountain since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
